Schenectady, NY - M+P Labs:  25 Years in Business

On November 21, 2011, M+P Labs will celebrate its 25th anniversary.  On that date in 1986, the lab became incorporated in the State of New York.  Largely due to the entrepreneurial spirit of its founder and first president, Niko V. Gjaja, the fledgling spin-off of GE in Schenectady, NY, was off to its start as an independent materials testing laboratory.  With a handful of specialized pieces of equipment and eight dedicated former GE employees, the business was born.  Today, 25 years later, the company is now a leader in its field, with forty employees, two thriving locations and prestigious clients in the energy, aerospace, defense, medical devices and automotive industries, among others.

Coinciding with this special anniversary for the company headquarters, the lab’s satellite location in Greenville, SC, also celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.  This location was established in 2001 to serve the needs of its clients in the southeastern sector of the US.  From a one-man operation at the start to a vibrant lab with 16 employees and extensive capabilities, the Greenville lab now boasts an impressive list of clients.

In December 2006, Mr. Gjaja sold the company to CERAM Research, Ltd., of the United Kingdom.  As a member of the CERAM Group, M+P Labs has been able to expand its capabilities to serve a growing list of new clients across the US and beyond.  “It’s gratifying to see the progress over the past 25 years and we look forward to a strong future”, says Frank Anderson, the current company President.

The company specializes in material identification, failure analyses, and qualification testing.  Dedicated to a cooperative, analytical approach in materials problems-solving, the company has evolved from a testing lab to an industrial materials consultancy with a reputation for unmatched excellence in the understanding and applications of materials.
